ALICE COOPER's Tampere Concert Cancelled On 'Religious Grounds'

August 15, 2009

ALICE COOPER's previously announced December 11, 2009 concert at Finland's Tampere Areena has been cancelled on "religious grounds." The venue's president/CEO, Harry Wiherkoski, is quoted as saying in the Finnish media, "We don't arrange concerts where Satanism or non-god-worshipping occurs."

According to Wiherkoski, Cooper's appearance at the Areena was first arranged earlier in the summer over the telephone, but the artist's identity wasn't revealed at the time of the booking. When Wiherkoski found out that Cooper was the artist that was looking to appear at the venue, the deal to stage the concert wasn't signed. Now the promoters are seeking a new venue for Cooper's performance, which is believed to be Barona Arena in Espoo.

"We've passed on this piece of information to Mr. Cooper. We are now awaiting his approval of the new arrangements," Kalle Keskinen of Speed Promotion is quoted as saying.

The news of Cooper's Tampere concert cancellation was first reported by the Finnish radio station Radio 957.
